How Sinus Conditions Affect Breathing and Daily Life
The sinuses are air-filled spaces that support airflow, drainage, and overall nasal function. When the sinus passages become inflamed, blocked, or structurally narrowed, normal drainage can be disrupted.
This may lead to ongoing congestion, facial pressure, sinus headaches, post-nasal drip, and difficulty breathing comfortably. In some cases, chronic sinus issues may also affect sleep quality and energy levels.
Understanding the underlying cause of sinus symptoms is essential before determining the most appropriate treatment approach.

What Are Chronic Sinus Conditions & How Are They Treated?
Chronic sinus conditions often develop when inflammation or structural obstruction prevents proper sinus drainage. Over time, this can lead to persistent symptoms and recurrent infections.
Treatment depends on the cause and severity of symptoms. Management may include:
- Medical therapy to reduce inflammation
- Allergy management when appropriate
- Minimally invasive sinus procedures
- Balloon sinuplasty to widen narrowed sinus openings
- Surgical correction of structural obstruction when necessary
The goal of treatment is to improve airflow, restore drainage, and reduce symptom recurrence.

Who May Be Considered & What to Expect
You may benefit from evaluation if you experience:
- Persistent sinus pressure or facial pain
- Frequent sinus infections
- Ongoing nasal congestion
- Facial pressure or sinus-related headaches
- Post-nasal drip
- Reduced sense of smell
- Symptoms lasting longer than 10 days
- Limited relief from over-the-counter medications
Evaluation typically includes a detailed medical history, physical examination, nasal endoscopy, and imaging when appropriate. This helps identify inflammation, structural narrowing, or other contributing factors.
Treatment recommendations are individualized based on findings and symptom history.
Comprehensive Sinus Evaluation
Effective sinus treatment begins with identifying the specific cause of persistent symptoms. Sinus conditions may stem from inflammation, infection, structural narrowing, or a combination of factors.
Symptom Pattern Assessment
We review the frequency, duration, and severity of sinus symptoms, including prior infections and response to medications.
Structural & Inflammatory Evaluation
Imaging and endoscopic examination may be used to assess sinus anatomy, drainage pathways, and signs of chronic inflammation.
Medical Treatment Review
Previous therapies, including antibiotics, nasal sprays, or allergy treatment, are evaluated to determine effectiveness.
Individualized Treatment Strategy
Findings are carefully analyzed to determine whether continued medical management, minimally invasive procedures, or surgical intervention may be appropriate.
A thorough evaluation ensures treatment is based on the underlying cause—not just the symptoms.

GOOD Based on 132 reviews Posted on Google Michelle GoldmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had the sinus balloonoplasty surgery seven months ago. I have not had one sick day since I have not had a sniffle since. It was 25 minutes long . Recovery was a joke. It is the easiest surgery in the world. Dr. Mandel is amazing. And I'm extremely healthy now. I just sent a friend to Dr. Mandel to get the same surgery done. He might have saved my life. I was sick for over two years with sinus infection infections and bronchitis.Posted on Google Joe D'AlesandroTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I got sinus surgery with Dr. Mandel a little under 2 years ago and it's been good so far. He definitely saved me. I had chronic sinusitis for 7 months with acute bouts before then for years. only when I would get sick, since I turned 20. Antibiotics and steroids were needed to get the snot out and stop producing more post-nasal drip. Finally medication stopped working in August 2023 when I got a flu, and several bouts of antibiotics and steroids didn't do anything. Beginning of March 2024 Dr. Mandel opened all 6 sinuses and did turbinate reduction. I like how this place did CT scans. Every other ENT is apparently just guessing, evidence by the fact 4 days before one of my appointments here another ENT in the area (2nd opinion) told me "he didn't see any sinusitis," then here they did a CT and saw it in 4 sinuses. Had surgery 4 weeks later here. The other ENT told me they are "aggressive" in this practice. He had a strong opinion of Mandel in fact. Yeah, in my view he actually wants to try and fix the problem and not have you come back. Haven't had a steroid/antibiotic pill since I had the surgery, every time I get sick now it feels different in there. Sometimes I still get sinusitis after a cold/flu but it just drains naturally within a day or two. I'd do it again if I had to. They sent me to a good allergist after too in order to monitor me. My default state is different with more mucus than before but according to him that's likely scarring from the multi-month episode I had.Posted on Google Eddie BasultoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Frequently Asked Questions
What is chronic sinusitis?
If you have had 12 weeks or more of symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pressure or pain, nasal discharge, cough, headache, postnasal drip, fatigue, dizziness, or reduced sense of smell, you may have chronic sinusitis.
Are sinus infections the same as chronic sinusitis?
Not always. Sinus infections may be acute and temporary, while chronic sinusitis involves persistent symptoms.
Is balloon sinuplasty painful?
We perform our procedures under sedation, much the same as a colonoscopy, so the procedure is not painful. Postoperatively there is minimal discomfort and patients get back to their normal activities within 24-48 hours.
Will sinus problems go away on their own?
Temporary sinus symptoms may improve, but persistent or recurrent issues often require evaluation.
Are procedures always necessary?
Many sinus conditions are initially managed with medical therapy. Procedures are considered when appropriate based on evaluation.
